Steve MacIntyre's fight with fellow NHL heavyweight Brian McGrattan was a candidate for the best hockey fight of the 2009-2010 season.

Steve MacIntyre, 6' 5", 250lbs, defenseman, is a native of Brock, Saskatchewan. He has spent many years in the minors as an enforcer, and 2010 may be the perfect time for the 30-year-old career minor leaguer to catapult himself into the upper echelon of the NHL’s top heavyweights.

Steve MacIntyre, Edmonton Oilers

Last year, MacIntrye was shuttled around from the NHL to AHL, but whatever action he saw in the NHL, he made the most of. Indeed, MacIntyre’s punchout with fellow NHL heavyweight Brian McGrattan was a solid candidate for the best hockey fight of the 2009-2010 season.

MacIntyre earned a strong reputation as a tough guy in the WHL and AHL. In the 1998-1999 WHL Regular Season he amassed a career-high 25 fighting majors. In July 2010, the Edmonton Oilers agreed to terms with the tough guy forward on a one-year deal. He re-joins the team after being picked up on waivers by the Florida Panthers near the beginning of last season.

MacIntrye appeared in four games for the Oilers in 2009-2010, spending the remainder of the season in the Panthers organization. He did appear in 18 games with Florida, collecting one assist and 17 penalty minutes. In between NHL stints, he also played in 34 games for the American Hockey League’s Rochester Americans, where he registered two assists and 86 penalty minutes.

MacIntyre scored his first NHL goal against the Washington Capitals on January 13, 2009. In 2009-2010, MacIntyre had four fights: Oct 24, 2009,1pd, 03:28, vs. Calgary's Brian McGrattan; November 25, 2009, 2pd, 10:46, (as a Panther) against New York Rangers' tough guy Donald Brashear; November 27, 2009,1pd, 11:12, (as a Panther) against Toronto Maple Leafs' enforcer Colton Orr; March 29, 2010,2pd, 04:20, (as a Panther) against Nashville's veteran scrapper Wade Belak. MacIntrye won the decision in all three of the fights he had as a Panther.

Steve MacIntyre, Hockey Fights

MacIntyre's first career fight took place Oct 03, 2008,2pd, 17:16, as an Edmonton Oiler in a preseason game against the Calgary Flames Jim Vandermeer. His first regular season NHL fight came Oct 18, 2008, 2pd, 05:34, as an Oiler against the always scrappy Brandon Prust, of Calgary.

Steve MacIntyre's career stats in the NHL as of 2010 are a bit meagre: 13 fights (including preseason), 44 games played, two goals, one assist, three total points, and 64 penalty minutes. Whether or not Steve MacIntyre can stick with the Edmonton Oilers his second time around is the big question. He certainly has all the physical tools to become an elite NHL tough guy, and to dominate in an era of increasingly sissified professional hockey. He will scrap at any time, fears no one, has awesome size, and can be an effective physical deterrent to the opposition. The 2010 season may be MacIntyre’s proverbial make or break year. If given the opportunity, he will not disappoint hockey fight fans.
